Dinners

Parents have a choice as to whether they pay for their child to have a hot meal, or bring a packed lunch. Storage is provided for lunchboxes, which should be labelled with the child’s name - in hot weather you may like to include an ice pack.

Children are encouraged to bring fruit to school for break times, but no sweets or
chocolate, please. They may also bring in a named drinks bottle with them, for water only, please. Drinking fountains are available.

Free School Meals

Free School Meals are available to children of parents receiving Income
Support or Jobseekers’ Allowance (Income Based).
Application forms may be obtained from the school office

Holidays

In accordance with County policy we discourage holidays during term time where possible, please. Where this is unavoidable, a form is available from  the school office. This should be returned to the Headteacher before the holiday, who will notify if authorisation has been agreed.

Attendance

For any absence, the school has a pupil absence mailbox facility which is always accessible via the main school telephone number. It is important that a note be sent or the school contacted personally or by telephone each day of absence, so that the Head and class teachers are aware of the reason for absence. If the school is not contacted by 10am we will normally contact the parent.

Car Parking

As car parking space is limited, parents are requested to park in Keward Avenue or further afield, leaving Keward Walk free for residents. Please do not park on the yellow zigzag hazard lines at any time or in the school car park, this is for permit holders only. There is a voluntary one-way system in operation with traffic flowing from Bignal Rand Drive along Keward Avenue and into Jocelyn Drive.

Class Organisation

From September 2011 there will be approximately 150 children on roll, with five full-time teachers. Children’s ages range from 7 to 11 years.

Classes combine during the week for school assemblies, music, games or for any activity the staff feel benefits the children. Setting by ability takes place in Maths throughout the school.

Homework is set on a weekly basis; children are encouraged to take lists of spellings and tables with them to learn at home. Children are given formal homework tasks to complete. These are related to their work in class. There is a home/school diary to help communication.

Children are encouraged to work both independently and in groups with other children. Within the class our aim is to establish each child’s individual talents and nurture and expand them to the fullest, offering stimulation and encouragement to children working at all levels.
