Religion

back to the About our School page

The act of Worship is intended to reflect our Christian tradition. It is important that our pupils also gain awareness and understanding of other world religions.
The arrangements for worship are varied; we hold class, year group and whole school assemblies at different times during the week. These are often attended by the vicar of St. Cuthbert’s Church as well as clergy from other churches in Wells.

A fortnightly high point for the children is an ‘Open the Book’ session led by a group from Christians together in Wells. During a short, interactive assembly the pupils thoroughly enjoy dressing in costume and performing the stories.

Under the provision of the Education Reform Act 1988 all parents have a right to
withdraw their child from the school’s act of collective worship, or from Religious
Education. Any parent wishing to withdraw a child from these elements of the
curriculum should make a written request through the Headteacher.
Our religious education policy has been drawn up in accordance with the Local
Education Authority’s non-denominational Agreed Syllabus.
